MSM, the political satnav …

MSM, the political satnav; “in six months, turn hard right down Abbott Road, and your destination, Austerity House is on the right!”

How many time have you heard the voice on your satnav say, “Do a “U” turn when possible, after taking you down a dead end street, or off in the wrong direction, or “Turn right”, as you are driving over an overpass or a bridge.

Well the MSM (Media Selling Misinformation) are just like a satnav using maps from the 1980s. No matter what your destination, they just keep trying to take you down the wrong road, and to the wrong destination.

Now I find it amazing that despite all the facts about the state of our economy so many people still believe Abbott, Hockey and Robb, when they tell their outright lies that we are in economic trouble and only a heartbeat away from fiscal disaster.

599389_10151565379651789_613066901_n

Likewise the disaster of our crippling debt, which is a massive 10% of GDP, when the fact is Australia’s net debt is dramatically lower than the net debt levels for every single major advanced economy.

Yet if we believe the LNPs own MSM, and that includes their ABC, you would swear that we are stuffed.

Mainly in the fifth estate, we have a saying “Right wing projection” that refers to how Abbott and his cronies accuse others, primarily the ALP, of doing what they themselves are guilty of;

  • Gillard lies = Abbott lies, but that’s OK cos when under pressure he admits that he lies, so therefore he is more honest… WTF
  • The carbon “Tax” will be a “Wrecking ball through the economy” = Our (LNP) wrecking ball is much bigger than yours.   😛
  • Don’t touch superannuation = That’s our job.   😀
  • We’ll stop the boats = We’ll stop you from stopping the boats, cos it’s to our political advantage to keep them coming.   😛
  • We’ll stop the waste = We’ll stop wasting money on infrastructure, health, education and providing services, so that we can waste it on us and our rich mates.   😯
  • The NBN is a waste of time and money, and we can do it better and cheaper = The NBN threatens the bank balances of our supporters puppet masters, and we’ll sell it off to Murdoch who will then control even more of the what we hear and the way we think, and only give the best system to those that can afford it; the well off.

Sadly these and many more examples of aforementioned “Right wing projection” are promoted in the MSM, to the exclusion of the truth and the facts.

Even our/their ABC are playing the Murdoch game of selling the LNP, to the extent that yesterday morning in a rare moment of clarity, it was declared by, the male anchor of their news breakfast show, at the end of a “News Item”, that “We will tell you who to vote for”,  before he realised what he said and quickly back peddled saying  “I’m joking, just joking” or words to that effect.

We know from the Leveson enquiry in the UK, and the fallout from that, that Murdoch owned News Limited will do whatever it takes to get/make a story and wield his power to the detriment of individuals, groups, organisations and even countries and their democracies.

We also know that many politicians are intimidated by the power that he has, even though his media network has been shown to be corrupt.

We know that his (Murdoch’s) CEO Kim Williams argued strongly, in front of the senate committee, that the proposed media legislation would seriously attack the “Freedom of the press”, and “Freedom of speech”, which is more right wing projection for;  The freedom of the press to choose the government that we want by controlling what you read and hear and think, through our freedom to speak lies, spin and bullshit.

So what should we do with a satnav that constantly takes you in the wrong direction, or down the wrong road?

Bugs Bunny as seen in The Looney Tunes Show.

Bugs Bunny (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

John Cleese at 61st Academy Awards

John Cleese at 61st Academy Awards (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Well you can upgrade the maps, or as we did at Christmas, go and get a new one that gives you the right information to take you where you want to go, and you can even upgrade that stupid voice to John Cleese or Bugs Bunny so as to have a laugh along the way.   😀

We NEED new media laws, as we need to make informed decisions about what sort of government we want for our great country.

So my advice… vote to upgrade the old MSM satnav and its lies and misinformation, or better still dump it and get a new 5th Estate satnav where you can get good directions to lead you to the right destination, and have a bit of fun along the way.     😀

What really is pee-ing me off is the ALP’s soft reactions to all the Abbott, Robb, Pyne et all crap.
I have sent numerous emails to the PM’s office asking just when they are going to actually fight back and debunk this crap and not once has anyone in Gllards office had the decency to even acknowledge my letter. I have spent countless morning over the years helping ALP candidates by letterbox dropping their campaign literature during election campaigns when we all know it gets chucked in the bin as the mail is collected. I am in utter despair at the lack of fightback right now mate.

David, welcome to my site, and thanks for your comment 😀

I do understand your frustration, and I know that the party wouldn’t function without the foot soldiers like your good self.

I do know that the PMs email address has changed, but I’m not sure how long ago or exactly why, but I do know that I did get a reply from her office when I sent my commiserations after the passing of her father. Having said that, I would venture to suggest that it is more to do with someone in her office, as from what I have heard from people that have met her, she is very personable and courteous.

I can say to you though, don’t despair. As I have written about in many articles and poems, this PM has had more than most to deal with and she is a very tough cookie who I am sure has a plan to deal with Abbott and his puppet masters.

There is still six months to go, and if a week is a long time in politics, six months is a bloody eternity 😀 so keep your chin up mate and keep fighting as we all will.

There is still a lot to come, and the last time that I heard her talk, she did leave the door open a little for some new media legislation, and I have been helping a lady named Kate Ahearne to set up a blog with the intention of doing a number of things to bring the MSM to account, so watch this space and I will keep you informed of the progress 😎

Thanks again mate and if you need a bit of a laugh, you could try some of my satirical poems, “The Boil” might be a good place to start 😀

      Cheers 🙂 😀 😆

When we travel north from NSW, going up to Brisbane, just south of the border, on the Tugun Bypass section of the Pacific Motorway, our GPS lady tells us to “Make a U-turn” “Make a U-turn”. Most insistent she is. Obviously doesn’t want us to head into Can’tDo Newman territory.

You are right about the awful MSM we have & the ABC is getting worse, day by day. Ch 7 do longer even makes any pretence of impartiality. NewsLtd trash remains that. Trash. Only now it’s falsehoods & misinformations are so blatant that these papers can only be classified as fiction.

The fact is we desperately need these new media regs as witness the screaming rants & outrageous claims made by the media bosses. They do want open slather & to hell with the public’s need for unbiased & impartial news.

I find it absolutely abhorent that television channel news readers constantly give their own biased opinions and political rhetoric. I am sure their must be something in the code of conduct for news readers opposing this, or perhaps Mr Murdock has made sure any reference to this has been obliterated already!

Yes I also get very frustrated at high paid TV anchors stating their opinions as fact, and sadly even on the ABC you see the same thing.

If there is not something in their code of conduct, there should be, or it could just be that Murdoch has made it clear that that’s what he wants from them? evil:

It is getting so hard to fight for an organisation that is not fighting for itself but seems intent on fighting amongst itself. I am continually arguing the benefits of the ALP to co-workers and people in the line at the shops but it is getting more and more difficult to get out the message of the great things that the ALP has done and is continuing to do when they don’t sing their own praises.
The ALP seems to be laying down to allow the lnp, media, business and anyone that can bend a leg to take a kick, meanwhile on blogs and facebook pages across this country there are people fighting for them and then being ignored completely. Arguing their cause does one no good, writing emails to them get ignored, writing letters to them get ignored, telephoning them gets one shuffled from one lackey to another and in the end ignored. If it is ignoring that the ALP wants then there are many of their followers that are beginning to turn and walk the other way.

I honestly believe, that this government has had the hardest time of any that I have seen, and there have been many disruptive forces within, and without.

They have been fighting a battle not only with the most dishonest and disruptive opposition this country has ever seen, but also with an MSM hell bent on bringing a democratically elected government to its knees.

They have also been fighting the enemy within, and despite all of that they have managed to do an amazing job to see us through the worst of the GFC, and the figures speak for themselves.

Now I know that there are a lot of supporters feeling despair at what has been going on, but we have to continue the fight, cos the alternative doesn’t bear thinking about.

As a QLDer, I have seen first hand the damage that even twelve months of Newman has done, and he is just Abbotts mini me. 👿 and Hockey has already flagged a Costello audit for an incoming LNP government.

But as I have previously stated, 6 months is a bloody eternity in politics, and we need people like you to keep taking the fight to the streets.

I also take every opportunity to talk to people about the government and try hard to counter the lies and spin of the LNP and their complicit MSM.

That’s also why I write my blogs, as this great country and our democracy needs us all, and losing is not an option! 😀

So keep your chin up and remember you are far from alone 😀

      Your efforts are appreciated 😀

Thank you for your kind welcome and sage words.

Sadly I am in a trough tonight largely in reaction to stings and barbs of those too blind to see what awaits them if we are not successful come September. Sometimes it is hard when it feels like you are trying to sell a product that no-one wants and a product that seems to not care whether it is sold or not.

If the ALP could show as much fight to the media, business, lnp and the like as they do in their fight against each other we would be a shoo-in. Seems that their best punches are reserved for each other and the rest of us have to continue the fight for them until they come to their senses again.

HaveAchat, I know how angry and frustrated I feel at times, with the ALP, and even though I have a deep seated belief in their basic principles and ideologies, I sometimes find myself amazed by how self destructive they can be.

But the fact is that despite all their problems, they are still light years ahead of the LNP, and IMHO still worth fighting for 😀

And I will continue to do what I can, but I must admit I find it good to associate with like minds on the blogs, and there are some great writers doing their bit for the cause.

That’s why I write my poems, as it can be a bit of light relief to have a bit of a chuckle at Abbotts expense 😀

Well did I get a huge shock last night!! We watch Prime7 local northern NSW evening news which has, fortunately, started to become more unbiased & balanced lately & is no longer spouting National Party propaganda as facts as they did in the past. Perhaps Rob Oakeshott said something to them.

Anyhow, this is followed by Ch 7’s Sydney evening news which, being owned by Kerry Stokes, is normally heavily biased towards the LNP version of events. Last night’s report, by their political editor Mark Riley, was about the alleged changes to the superannuation taxes supposedly occurring in the May budget. He made mention of the fact that these mooted changes were only going to affect the very top % of super contributors & not the ordinary workers. He also showed a clip where Tony Abbott states the bare-faced lie that the LNP would not touch workers’ super. Mark made it quite clear that the stated LNP policy was to affect the lower paid workers’ super particularly women who work part time hours & are in lower paid positions. All in all he made it quite obvious that the LNP, & the rest of the MSM, were telling a bunch of lies & spreading misinformation about this matter.

After I picked myself up off the floor, no mean task, I tweeted Mark to thank him. Hope he received it. No doubt he would be getting a blast from Stokes & will be back to repeating the same lying crap that we get from the rest of the execrable MSM next time we see him.

Have you ever noticed that around major roadworks where up to kilometres of side tracks etc have been prepared, turn offs have changed and there is productive work going on that will lead to better conditions for everyone, there are frequently those large changing signs on the back of trailers?

Around the temporary exits the signs usually give directions with large moving arrows so you can find the right exit – and it seems to be increasingly common that one of the signs displays a screen with words to the effect of “ignore GPS – follow direction signs”

To co-opt a religious phrase on Good Friday – perhaps there is a lesson there for all of us.

Hi TS, enjoyed your Blog. As a purely neutral observer (New Zealander living in Aus), i find it really disturbing how openly bias and one sided a lot of the media is against the current ALP government, some of the vitriolic commentary targeted at the PM is truely appalling. However i do believe that the ALP may have a small window of opportunity to make up some ground on the Coalition or even swing the tide of momentum, because at some stage during the next 5 – 6 months Tony Abbott is going to have to man up and go one on one with Julia Gillard in a series of Political debates and from what i have seen she will bury him.

We are being led by the nose by the MSM, I too feel like others here that Labor is stepping on its own toes. This is being exacerbated by the MSM who won’t report on anything else because of their agenda, as lots have said in the past. ‘Labor can’t get is messages out’. Naturally we cant when those responsible for getting the messages out refuse to do so. Mass anger is building in the electorate & something will happen soon. May/June the Abbott pimple will be squeezed.
Our media is a bit like a pressure cooker with the relief valve blocked, pressure is building & it will go bang soon. If people feel they are being treated like mugs with total contempt they will fight back, at the moment it feels like fighting with our hands tied behind our backs. I feel there is a change in the journosphere, some are realising that the train wreck of an Abbottocracy will be placed squarely at their feet & they will be asked WHY?
If our worst nightmares come true & the Whinging Wing Nut does steal the key to the lodge(dog forbid) we will be in a recession within 12 months, keep a mental note of those business owners that are singing WWN’s praises, when they start bitching about the collapse of our economy under the Lieberals just remind them they got what THEY voted for, just like ‘Can do whatever I like Newman’ he will only be there 1 term.
