Austerity… So how’s that working for you?

Austerity… So how’s that working for you?

My sister arrived from the UK on Thursday night, and one of the first long conversations I had with her was about politics.

David Cameron and Tony Abbott, Austerity Incorporated.

David Cameron and Tony Abbott, Austerity Incorporated.

As I have mentioned before, my sister was never one for talking politics, until recently, but her outrage is palpable, as she talks about the unfairness of the right wing nut jobs running the country since the last elections over there.

She talks passionately about the plight of the poorest in society, the elderly, the disabled, the sick.  She told me how people are dying as a direct result of the austerity measures and how, before long they are expecting riots in the streets.

She told me that the Arrogance of the Tory’s, is infuriating as they slash spending on health, government services and social programs for the elderly, which are the only option for many of them to interact with society, all the while giving themselves pay rises and handing out tax breaks for the wealthy. She can’t even claim her pension for another year, as the age has been raised to save money, meaning that she has to start looking for a job when she goes back in two weeks

It’s my sisters birthday today, Saturday, and she is in Australia courtesy of her partner buying her the ticket.

When they have visited in the past, they have come out together, but this time they could not afford it, as things are very tight and the Aus dollar makes it even harder.

They, like many, overseas, look with envy at Australia, the strength of our economy, and the services that we receive, under a government that actually cares for its citizens and makes fair and equitable fiscal policy, and wonder WTF are we complaining about?

Rupert Murdoch, Chairman and Chief Executive O...

She is also disgusted at the way that Murdoch maintains a firm grip on his media interests in the UK and despite the fact that he has been widely condemned, around the world, as an evil, self interested megalomaniac, he is still wielding  his power and has the politicians scared shitless of going up against him.  Hence the watered down media regulations there despite the Leveson enquiry and the damming findings that they made.

The scary thing is that he has got so much money/power, that the GFC is not seen as even an inconvenience, by his ilk, but rather an opportunity to gain even more power.  He is even willing to sacrifice a certain amount of his profits (readership) to take full advantage of said opportunity, and here in Australia we are being led like lambs to the slaughter, by Abbott and his puppet masters, all for the sake of Mogul Megalomania.

Make no mistake, Abbott stands for exactly what the UK, the EU and the USA are, and have been, dealing with since the start of the GFC, and if he gets the opportunity via the Sept elections, he WILL bring us into line with them as surely as night follows day.

And every Australian should  take a good hard look at what we have, compare it with what the vast majority of the developed world has, and then ask the question of them… “Austerity… How’s that working for you?”

And then, for the sake of the future of our kids and this great nation, vote according to their answer, which in the vast majority of cases will be… “Bloody Awful!”

First, let me wish your sister a very happy birthday, and a very enjoyable visit to OZ
As for your article, I really do fear for the future of my grandkids.
My wife and I have tried to put a plan together, so that any action we take today, in respect to super, investments etc is there to try to buffer them from what I see as inevitable attack on working class in future.
To watch whats happening in Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Ireland etc, shows that the Ruling elite, the Bankers and Media will do to protect their own interests.
The whole world is lurching to the right,.
I read one comment re the banks “too big to fail, too big to jail”
    seems right !
And the problem is the 95% of us are letting the 5% get away with it.
We have been brainwashed into submission.
Time to try to fight back

cornlegend, thanks for your comment, and your kind wishes for my sis 😀

Yes, to hear what is really happening in a so called civilised society like the UK, due to austerity measures.

And when you hear of the problems in those EU countries, you just have to shake your head and hope to God that Abbott gets what he and Murdoch deserve. 👿

Yes indeed. “TIME TO FIGHT BACK”

      Cheers 😀

G’Day TS, another great piece, I hope your sister has a good visit. I have been wondering of late if Murdoch getting Abbott elected is a ploy to hide here in Australia when the US tries to put him behind bars. Is he setting us up to be his bolt hole? As I tweeted yesterday

“Murdoch is sick of buying papers, buying a country instead this time, it’s easier, comes with free live-in puppet manager.”

I’m sure Abbott would refuse to have Murdoch extradited if found guilty in the US, they would come up with one of those bullshit stories of, “oh he is too old & sick to travel” , most of the worse legal offenders in the last few yrs once caught out, first stop the hospital with a mock heart attack!!

I have been pulling back a bit from political commenting as the rage it is causing is starting to interfere with my sleep which I don’t like. I care about this country & don’t like the way it is going, but I feel I’m in the minority.

All I’m waiting for is the wake up that people will get if the whinging wingnut gets elected & the people who voted for him get what they deserve, McMansions will be a dime a dozen within 12 months of an Abbott win, then I’ll be laughing in their faces telling them “you got what you wanted now suck it up & sleep in the gutter you have made for yourselves”.

    • Truth Seeker says:

khtagh, thanks for your comment 😀 and thanks for your kind words and thoughts 😀

I must admit that I find it somewhat strange that a man that is so corrupt and reviled around the world is still a free man, when others have been incarcerated for much less that he has done, and continues to do.

I, like you, also find myself losing sleep at times, worrying about our future under Abbott/Murdoch 👿

and yes the only joy, if you can call it that, in an Abbott win will be telling those that are responsible to suck it up, as they got what they wanted 😦

      Cheers 😀

It’s sad to have firsthand verification via your mother, about what we have all realised was happening in the world. I might have mentioned in other comments, but I’ll do it again. Read Carroll Quigley’s book “Tragedy and Hope”. He is an historian of great eminence and he describes
In great detail what we are seeing today, starting around the late 1800’s. It’s a long read, but worth it. It’s a free ebook.

  4. Truth Seeker says:

Greogry, thanks for your comment 😀

Yes, my sister is very angry about what is happening, and It’s what we are facing too 😯

If Abbott and Murdoch get the way. 👿

I haven’t read the book, but if I get a chance, I’ll have a look at it 😎

    Cheers 😀

hi Truthie. Greetings to your sis. Thanks for this. Passionate and sensible as usual.

    • Truth Seeker says:

Hi Kate, thanks for your comment and greeting for my sis 😀 , we are currently having fun with the grandkids, as they have not met their auntie before.

      Cheers ;grin:

  6. The trouble is Ktagh, if the LNP do get in it is going to be the middle to low income earners plus the pensioners who will be most affected.
T/S, I too hope that your sister has a good time while she is here. I’m also glad that you have first hand information as to what is happening in the UK, also to the austerity measures in those countries in the EU.
Of course to expect the MSM to report any of this is making all of us who really care what will happen to our great country well & truly sick to our stomachs, not to mention sleep interference.
BUT, I am still going to fight for what I know is right for this country – just like our PM is doing. Another state signed up with the NDIS. Go you good lady.

    • Truth Seeker says:

Sandra, thank you for your comment 😀 and wishes for my sis 😎 she will be spending a lot of time with our parents, who are in their eighties, and appreciates all the good wishes 😀

We will fight to the end to stop Abbott and Murdoch, and there is still lots of time for Liealot to stuff up, which is what he’s best at 😀

I agree that the PM is doing what’s right for the country as opposed to Abbott who only does what’s best for him and his mates 😯

      We WILL prevail 😀

      Cheers 😀

It must be lovely to have your sister here for her birthday. She sounds very much like you, caring about others welfare. Unlike Knee High, I am not losing sleep and much to Talk Turkeys disgust, I have resigned myself to Labor losing but will continue to hope for something good to happen that will prevent the other mob winning. It is all too scary to contemplate what will happen, but there will be a lot of very angry and upset people that will find they have been led up the garden path

    • Truth Seeker says:

Gravel , thanks for your comment 😀 and support 😎

Yes it is great to have her with us for a while, and she is very passionate about the plight of the sick, disabled and the elderly.

I would encourage you to not resign yourself to an Abbott win, as if a week is a long time in politics, four months is a life time and Abbott is very unstable, where as PMJG is very stable and committed.

We MUST prevail for the sake of our country and our children’s futures 😀

      Cheers 😀

  8. jane says:

TS, please give your sister my best wishes for her birthday and I hope she enjoys her brief holiday with you & your family.

What your sister has to say about the Cameron government comes as no surprise. That is all they know and to hell with the poor, the disabled and the disadvantaged; all expendable.

As bad as the Blair government was, it would still sh!t all over the Tory wet dream the UK has wished on itself and we could be headed in the same direction if we let Liealot’s mob in.

Anyone who thinks Liealot isn’t Rupert’s plaything has rocks in their head. Liealot only cares about getting into the Lodge. He has no interest whatever in the welfare of this country or any citizens but the wealthy.

    Another great post, btw.

    • Truth Seeker says:

Jane, thank you so much for your comment and kind wishes for my sister, 😀 she is very grateful and touched by everyones birthday greetings and good wishes, and asked me to thank you all very much 😀

Yes, what Cameron has done is terrible, but when we realise that the “Good work for the Nation” that Abbott talked about over the Christmas break, that was more important than reading the Justice Rares judgement on the Ashby case, was all about learning what he (Cameron) was doing, it shows just how afraid we should be! 👿

You are absolutely right that Murdoch is playing with Abbott for his own agenda, and it just shows how ambitious/stupid Abbott is, that he is prepared to be used in that way 😯

      Cheers 😀 😎
