Newman, a disaster for QLD but a wakeup call for voters!
As our illustrious QLD treasurer, Tim Nichols, prepares to hand down his second budget,
the outrage is already building.
With election promises falling like ten pins at a bowling tournament, QLDers are starting to wake up to the fact that they have been played for suckers by the LNP.
Costello’s alleged “Commission of Audit” has set the ground work for another round of job and service cuts and selloffs, not to mention the scrapping of the promised power rebate as well as a 22% hike in the price of power announced last week.
They are telling us that these measures are necessary to get back to “surplus” and help restore the states AAA credit rating.
Now I don’t profess to being an economist by any stretch of the imagination, but I seem to recall a certain federal government being awarded a AAA rating by all three ratings agency’s whist running a deficit, and in the midst of the worst global downturn since the great depression.
I also recall that AAA rating being reaffirmed just recently, despite said government announcing a major downturn in tax receipts, and deficits for the next three years or so, which were widely condemned by the rabid right.
And their hypocrisy knows no bounds, as at least two state LNP governments, QLD and WA, are now claiming that the same write down in tax income that the LNP said was all lies and rubbish, when claimed by the federal ALP, is now perfect justification for the austerity measures that they are now introducing… WTF?
So whilst economists around the world are slowly waking up to the reality that austerity doesn’t work, instead prolonging the agony of recession like it has in the UK, where they are into a third dip recession along with many European countries, Newman and his rabid right cronies are bound and determined to take us down the same recessionary path.
Why is it that these ideologically driven morons can, and will, never learn?
How can these allegedly intelligent people seriously believe that by putting more on the unemployment lines, forcing people to pay more for less service, increase the cost of utilities and reducing consumer confidence, they will stimulate the economy, and improve the states credit rating?
Any fool can see that if you increase the dole cues, you are putting further pressure on already stretched welfare agency’s and the federal budget, whilst further reducing the tax income and therefore the amount available for infrastructure spending which in turn puts more on the dole and more pressure on small business further reducing confidence and the cycle continues.
And as I am writing this, I am watching another of the news reports of rally’s and civil unrest in Europe that have been seen regularly over the last few years, over the continuing austerity measures, and the damage that they are doing.
Is this really what we want for our country? A country that weathered the financial storm of the GFC, under the good management and stewardship of this ALP government, only to be dragged into recession by the stupid and outdated ideologies of the LNP and their puppet masters?
A country that will follow the UK, Europe and the USA into recession long after we dodged the original bullet, simply because the rabid right believe that you cannot manage an economy unless you produce a surplus regardless of the circumstances.
Therefore sacrificing jobs, services, confidence, economic stability and as Thatcher did in the UK, Lives, all for the sake of the “almighty surplus” that in real terms will amount to nothing more than economic vandalism, and take us years, if not decades to recover from.
The lies and backflips from the Newman LNP, Are a disaster for QLD, but should be a major wakeup call for voters in this up-coming federal election, cos Abbott and his bunch of right wing nut jobs, backed by Murdoch, will make Newman look like an amateur.
And as we, in QLD, wait for the axe to fall once again, and truth gets sacrificed on the altar of rabid right wing ideology, we can all ponder the dire consequences of wall to wall LNP state governments, and the final nail in Australia’s fiscal and social coffin… Abbott in the Lodge!
