Newman, a disaster for QLD but a wakeup call for voters

Newman, a disaster for QLD but a wakeup call for voters!

As our illustrious QLD treasurer, Tim Nichols,  prepares to hand down his second budget,

WANTED, Tim Nichols, for crimes against the QLD economy.

WANTED, Tim Nichols, for crimes against the QLD economy.

the outrage is already building.

With election promises falling like ten pins at a bowling tournament, QLDers are starting to wake up to the fact that they have been played for suckers by the LNP.

Costello’s alleged “Commission of Audit” has set the ground work for another round of job and service cuts and selloffs, not to mention the scrapping of the promised power rebate as well as a 22% hike in the price of power announced last week.

They are telling us that these measures are necessary to get back to “surplus” and help restore the states AAA credit rating.

Now I don’t profess to being an economist by any stretch of the imagination, but I seem to recall a certain federal government being awarded a AAA rating by all three ratings agency’s whist running a deficit, and in the midst of the worst global downturn since the great depression.

I also recall that AAA rating being reaffirmed just recently, despite said government announcing a major downturn in tax receipts, and deficits for the next three years or so, which were widely condemned by the rabid right.

newman_the_dictator_0

And their hypocrisy  knows no bounds, as at least two state LNP governments, QLD and WA, are now claiming that the same write down in tax income that the LNP said was all lies and rubbish, when claimed by the federal ALP, is now perfect justification for the austerity measures that they are  now introducing… WTF?

So whilst economists around the world are slowly waking up to the reality that austerity doesn’t work, instead prolonging the agony of recession like it has in the UK, where they are into a third dip recession along with many European countries, Newman and his rabid right cronies are bound and determined to take us down the same recessionary path.

Why is it that these ideologically driven morons can, and will, never learn?

How can these allegedly intelligent people seriously believe that by putting more on the unemployment lines, forcing people to pay more for less service, increase the cost of utilities and reducing consumer confidence, they will stimulate the economy, and improve the states credit rating?

Any fool can see that if you increase the dole cues, you are putting further pressure on already stretched welfare agency’s and the federal budget, whilst further reducing the tax income and therefore the amount available for infrastructure spending which in turn puts more on the dole and more pressure on small business further reducing confidence and the cycle continues.

English: Members of the Socialists and Democra...

And as I am writing this, I am watching another of the news reports of rally’s and civil unrest in Europe that have been seen regularly over the last few years, over the continuing austerity measures, and the damage that they are doing.

Is this really what we want for our country?  A country that weathered the financial storm of the GFC, under the good management and stewardship of this ALP government, only to be dragged into recession by the stupid and outdated ideologies of the LNP and their puppet masters?

A country that will follow the UK, Europe and the USA into recession long after we dodged the original bullet, simply because the rabid right believe that you cannot manage an economy unless you produce a surplus regardless of the circumstances.

Therefore sacrificing jobs, services, confidence, economic stability and as Thatcher did in the UK, Lives, all for the sake of the “almighty surplus” that in real terms will amount to nothing more than economic vandalism, and take us years, if not decades to recover from.

The lies and backflips from the Newman LNP, Are a disaster for QLD, but should be a major wakeup call for voters in this up-coming federal election, cos Abbott and his bunch of right wing nut jobs, backed by Murdoch, will make Newman look like an amateur.

And as we, in QLD, wait for the axe to fall once again, and truth gets sacrificed on the altar of rabid right wing ideology, we can all ponder the dire consequences of wall to wall LNP state governments, and the final nail in Australia’s fiscal and social coffin… Abbott in the Lodge!

I am surprised at you Truthseeker, my learned friend..

cornlegend, I think that Bad Barry will become even worse if Abbott gets in, as Newman’s state policies will become the benchmark for the rabid right across the land 👿

I agree that the LNP wanted us to crash and burn, as they have been talking and acting as if we did anyway, and it would have given credibility to their outrageous claims. 😦

Call me naive, but I live in hope that people can and should learn from their mistakes, maybe my mistake is giving them (The LNP) the benefit if the doubt, as far as being people 😯

WRT them having no brains or hearts, I wrote a poem about just that “The Abbott of Oz”

It is all so heartbreakingly true, Truth Seeker. What is even more depressing, is that these congenital financial imbeciles have spruiked their alleged economic expertise for so long they not only believe this nonsense themselves but have persuaded the unthinking masses to also believe it.

How many of their voter base, of small business owners, will go to the wall if this lot get onto the Treasury benches. Are they so dumb, business-wise, as to believe this tosh about a surplus at all costs?? If so, they deserve to go broke. After all it is small business which will be the first to feel the effects of an economic turn down. More people out of work, less discretionary spending much of which is the bread & butter of small business.

    I despair. 😦

Joy, thanks for your comment 😀 and that was exactly the point of this post, to hopefully give the voters a chance to look clearly at what will happen under Abbott.

I have to say though joy, capitulation is not an option, so don’t despair, get angry and let everyone know that you won’t take it lying down, but fight to the bitter end for the future of this great nation, cos that’s what I’ll be doing, and encouraging everyone else to do.

And that is what you are already doing by being engaged in the conversations.

Love your work, and always look forward to your feedback 😀

Their is a lot of suffering and hardship in the States & Territory which are being run by Liberal/National conservative Governments, but if the voters allow Abbott to win the federal elections, it will be total devastation throughout the Country.

  5. Joy, some of the small business LNP voters don’t have a clue. I had a verbal sparring contest with one when posting on The Conversation. This twit said Labor failed to deliver the promised company tax cuts. I responded by informing him that it was blocked last year by the Noalition in league with the Greens. I also said that Abbott’s overly generous Maternity Leave scheme, skewed towards rich mums, would involve a company tax of 1.5% that would flow onto the consumer and small business. This guy simply believes in myths and is one of the millions who would vote against his own interests.

Ronald, you are dead right, some just don’t have a clue, but many are just plain blind to any thing other than the LNP. I have had conversations with small business owners who even admit that the ALP have been better for them, but will still vote LNP, many because they believe that if you are a small business owner, that’s what you do… WTF 😯

How do you argue against that sort of blatant stupidity 🙄

This is the first time I have entered a post anywhere. Husband & self small business owners. Vote labor.live in qld. Not all small business owners are LNP supporters, however nearly all our customers hate labor and in particular Julia Gilliard. Why is it every thing Fed Govt has tried e.g. Flood levy was hated but now OK for Newman to look at bringing in. We really believe in the Carbon price on large business. See it no different than the EPA regulations we all had to do and charge $5 EPA fees to cover our costs.this is to keep our creeks, rivers, oceans clean. The carbon price is to keep our breathable air cleaner, convert to clean energy. And we badly need the NBN. Asylum seekers – If everyone that is complaining about their treatment, and I do agree it is not good, could come up with a workable solution put it up their, The Fed Govt did get a board of so called experts to advise them, but it is not working so perhaps it needs to go back for more consultation.

Hi Rhonda, welcome to my site, 😀 and I am honoured that you chose my site to make your first comment on 😎

As an ex-small business person myself, I do know that there are many like your good selves who understand what politics is about, and make an informed decision about who to vote for, but sadly there are also many who vote LNP because they believe that’s just what you do when you own a small business.

This great country needs more small business people like you, not because you vote Labor (Although that’s a good thing 😀 ) , but because you obviously care for the country and its future and not just about your own bottom line, as do the likes of Gina and her ilk.

I agree that the situation with the asylum seekers is not good, but if the LNP had not been playing politics and passed all the recommendations, I think things would have been much better than they are, and the framework for a regional processing arrangement would already be in place to further improve the situation. 😦

For a first comment, that was full of well considered points and common-sense, and I sincerely hope it will be the first of many 😀

          Thanks for your comment 😎

Hi Truthie. Please forgive the delay in responding to your latest piece. I’ll probably make myself unpopular now, when I say that I probably enjoy your prose better than your poetry – I can get my teeth into it.

Anyway, I understand what you’re saying here, and good for you. But to my mind, Qld. might turn out to be a great big shock on Sept 14. Campbell Newman keeps making unpopular decisions. Every time he does that, voters disappear from his ledgers, and turn up undecided, or decided elsewhere – that’s what voters do. It’s their right, and their responsibility, to do what they do.

    Best wishes, Truthie.

I agree that there may well , and should, be an unpleasant surprise for the LNP, as a result of Newman’s machinations, and that’s what I was alluding to when saying “But a wakeup call for voters.”, but also voters throughout the country.

Because the polls are so skewed, we don’t really know what effect Newman is having on Qld voters. Hopefully his activities will cause a major shift in that state. I am happy if the votes go to independents. I think they’ve done a brilliant job in this parliament.

I do tend to agree, but if, per chance, Abbott does get the keys to the lodge, it certainly won’t be the government that I voted for, or the government that the country needs 😦

I just hope that we, as a country, wake up to the fact that we are being conned by vested interests and megalomaniacs driven by their own selfish ambitions and rabid right ideologies. 👿

That’s why I and many others write and post articles, poems and comments, in the hope (vain though it may seem) that some might hear the message and spread the word to others through facebook, twitter and other forms of social media, because the MSM has been well and truly corrupted, and is feeding us lies for the sake of their own, and their bosses, agendas. 😯

Cannot believe that the ALP supposedly did some internal polling in Qld & came up with the result that all federal Old ALP MPs would lose their seats apart from Kevin Rudd. How did the MSM find out about this?

This poll was, apparently, done in only a small segment of Wayne Swan’s electorate, with just a few people polled, too. Doesn’t sound like a very reliable poll, It is just the type of anti-ALP non-news the MSM likes to spruik..

Now that the latest Newspoll has come out with its normal dire result for Julia Gillard & the federal ALP the MSM is flocking to the usual suspects for a quote on how crook the Labor Party is at the moment. Joel Fitzgibbon is being his normal traitorous, & gloating, self. Makes me sick.

While I write this post I am listening to local Victorian ABC radio present further bleak polls regarding Labor. Just heard Rudd say that it is very hard times for Labor – nothing like positive reinforcement! If I hear a whisper of another leadership challenge…I’ll, I’ll…. I really don’t know WTF I do except hope all this doom and gloom results in a backlash ignited by behaviour such as QLD’s LNP government and Victoria’s LNP.

I must admit to getting very frustrated with the constant doom and gloom and whiteanting from some on the back benches, when there are many reasons to ignore the polls as just more of Murdoch’s mendacious machinations 😀 after all he owns most of the polling agencies the same way that he owns Abbott’s arse and the LNP. 👿

The truth is that we have another three months before an election, and as the old saying goes “A week is a long time in politics!” So we still have time to do whatever we can. 😀

And when you look at what Julie Bishop has just done to Foreign Affairs (which I have just posted another piece on; “Said the Bishop to the Indonesians”) there is plenty of time for the voters to come to grips with what a terrible mess we will be in , if Abbot and his puppet masters win. 🙄

I’m glad though that you appreciate the sentiment, as it is more about the message than correct spelling or punctuation. 😀
