Are the MSM really that stupid?

Are the MSM really that stupid?

images

How many times a day do you read or  hear some allegedly intelligent news anchor/reporter/journalist say/write such things as;

  • “Why have the people stopped listening?”
  • “Why can’t the ALP get their message out?”
  • “Why do the ALP have a communication problem?”
  • “Why is it that the ALP aren’t being heard?”

To all these questions, I have my own questions;

😯

  • “Are all these questions rhetorical?”
  • “Are you kidding?”
  • Are you all being deliberately obtuse?”
  • “WTF?”

They also rearrange these questions, so as to state them as fact, as if this is breaking news.

  • The people have stopped listening.
  • The ALP can’t get their message out.
  • The ALP have a communication problem.
  • The ALP aren’t being heard

The really annoying thing is that even the publicly funded ABC have jumped on the band

wagon, and become part of the problem, with Leigh Sales devoting entire interviews to

shutting down her ALP guests, who come on to talk about and promote policy, for the sake of chasing the rumour, spin and sensational, rather than informing the public of the policy options put forward by the opposing protagonists.

imagesThe other side of the coin, is that the opposition continue to go unscrutinised by the same  spin and rumour mungers, who happily promote the lies and spin of the LNP (Liberal, and National Party’s).

They then have the audacity to ask those stupid questions, while keeping a straight face.

I have heard many people say that they hate Julia, or that she’s a liar and can’t be trusted, images but when pressed on these points they just mindlessly repeat the LNP slogans, or dither around, in confusion, trying to find ways to justify their hatred without any real reasons for it.   Why is that?

On QandA last monday, Robert Mann actually tried to make the point that the media might be responsible for the ALP not getting their message out, only to be howled down by   Paul Kelly, editor at large of the Un-Australian, who was outraged at the mere suggestion, and backed up by Tony (I’m biased and I’m in charge) Jones, and Barnaby (Stupidity is what I aspire to) Joyce.

Of course they know that their agenda is to give Abbott a limo ride straight to the Lodge, and they also know that they have been instrumental in promoting the LNP slogans of a dysfunctional, dishonest and generally bad government, as well as drumming up constant leadershit speculation, by quoting “Internal polling”, that they won’t or can’t produce, “Unnamed sources”, which are at best suspect and at worst nonexistent, and “Whispers behind closed doors” which pretty much speak for themselves.

Then they look all wide eyed and innocent, as they ask all those stupid and rhetorical questions.

When did the old Journalists creed of “without fear or favour”, become;

  • “With fear of Murdoch and favour to Abbott”?
  • “Without fear of repercussions for telling lies”?
  • “Without honesty or integrity”?
  • “Without sources or validation”?

To name but a few that are more pertinent than the original creed.   😯

Now to some relevant questions;

When did a once great profession like journalism join the ranks of greedy bankers, Insurance execs, and shonky used car salesmen, as some of the most dishonest, dishonourable and despised in society?

When did so called journalists go from reporting the news, to inform public opinion, to giving opinion as news for the express purpose of manipulating and directing public opinion?

When did the MSM become barrackers for  the rabid right wing nut jobs of the LNP?

When did an old American megalomaniac, who doesn’t even qualify to vote in this country, get the go ahead to dictate to Australians who we should have running OUR country?
And now to the first question asked;

“Are the MSM really that stupid?”

And the answer is NO, they are not stupid (Generally speaking, although there are some notable exceptions), they are dishonest, deceitful and complicit, and should be called to account for their part in trying to bring down a duly elected government.

In many countries around the world, their actions would be regarded as tantamount to TREASON.

  1. this has to be the best thing I have read in ages, it puts the real situation just as I would describe it. I have posted it on ABC 7.30 facebook page and challenge them to respond..they won’t..they are worried about getting a job once Abbott flogs the ABC to Murdoch at a bargain price.

Yes this situation with the MSM has been a constant source of frustration for a long time now, but after this last weeks craziness, I just had to vent my spleen 😀

Like you, I doubt the ABC will respond, and even if they do it will be to justify their position, 😦 But we live in hope, and I appreciate your efforts in sharing 😀

It is of course true that the MSM obviously has a bias toward electing a conservative government and a self interest in doing so. They include more freedom for hurtful and spiteful expression. More extensive ownership. And the capacity to restrict new and progressive Internet technology in favour of outdated applications.

It is utterly frustrating! Is the fear of telling the truth so great.
I just had a memory flash of that famous film about the newspaper man (hearst?) standing deserted and alone in his huge cavernous mansion. Sad and alone. The news of murdoch’s next divorce shows he is slowly moving into that dark empty void of loneliness and despair when he realises he will be a long time dead. But oh what havoc he has wreaked.
Sorry for being so dismal Truthie.

Truthie I’m breaking by usual routine. I’ve just been out giving the chooks their warm morning mash and had a couple of flashes and decided its too cold this morning for the garden so came back in to send this. The film was Citizen Kane. An exception in the pack of useless journos is Mike Secombe on theGlobalmail.org who regularly tells it with a fairly neutral line. I’m off on a hunt to find where Maxine McKew ( the howard-eVictor) is and what she is doing. She should stand against that useless alexander. She was a competant journo.

It makes her look rude, shrill and totally unable to listen and then rebutt the answer given. And now we have the Age demanding the Prime Minister stand down. The height of impertinence.

Hi Truthseeker, just read about THE Age editor is asking Julia to step down, HOW DARE HE, can we ask to have him removed, also Leigh sales , she too needs to be stepped down from the 7-30report as Chris Uhlmann should. Could we have a petition like they did for Akerman to be removed fro the ABC Drum?I would be the first to sign it.

It is obvious that the ABC is in it with all the Fairfax , NEWS LTD and of course that Rupert Murdoch. Who in the hell do they think they are, to decide who the PM will be, WELL NOT THEM for a start.
Now we have Tony Abbott and Gina wanting to dig more holes in the Northen Territory ,
Where are his policies? A vision indeed .This is why he won’t let Campbell Newman and WA sign for Gonski .that is why he is cut ting the Price on carbon, health , and the NBN he wants every penny for his vision instead . A pair of Dictators, with Hitler at the helm.
I am asking the people of Australia please vote for labor. It is very obvious who will be running this Country. “That is correct”, Gina , Tony, and Rupert .The three stooges.
Why do you think The Age editor has asked the PM to step down. Rupert is putting the pressure on all the media now . watch it getting dirtier. My message to everyone who is concerned. Hi again Truthseeker. i have just written on IA under the article about Leigh Sails interview. My theory is, that this VISION of Abbotts and Gina digging holes in the top end ,needs money right?

Well with Abbott telling the QLD premier and the Northern Territory Government not to sign up the Gonski , and he is going to cut price on Carbon, NBN, and more ,makes you wonder is this why they need to get rid of the PM, she is standing in their way , with Abbott in the lodge it will be just what they want. Fairfax, ABC, all the channels , Mike Carlton, and Murdoch and whoever else has interest in this project .they all seem to have a finger in the pie. maybe they will all have shares in it.

Do you reckon there is a connection here and why are they planning a vote of no confidence this week when there is only 3 months to go before an election?
There is a smell to all this, a conspiracy, called “THE Northern Territory gate”
When you look at it closely , how is it they are panicking , the whole lot ,TV channels all calling for her head on a plate, a Fairfax editor, mike Carlton, who only a while ago he was for her. Tony Abbott on TV tonight ranting that he was going to go for a vote for no confidence and Windsor and Oakeshott was going to go along with them. Julia Gillard looked really sad today up in QLD, not her normal self. and that gorilla next to her,
By the way, i noticed on ABC face book today , someone had mentioned your site” the True seeker” .that is how i got to your article . I think it was ABC, I hope you can make sense of all this. , The theory sounds right.

The truth is that this is not about turning the north into a food bowl for Asia, as due to the rainy season, lack of normals seasons and the constant humidity, the growing potential is severely limited.
And even in the few months when crops would grow, they would be plagued with pests and diseases without vast quantities of pesticides and fungicides, which if used would make the chemical companies richer but seriously pollute the waterways, and would be harder to sell anyway IMHO. 😯

I do believe that it’s all about money… Gina’s and the other resource giants and their investors who would be the big (no pun intended) beneficiaries from this plan. But as far as your theory is concerned, anything is possible with this bunch of self absorbed, right wing nut jobs.

As far as the MSM goes, they want Gillard gone, because they can’t control her, and she advocates for the people, not for the moguls as Abbott does, and they know that Rudd is their best chance of being assured government, as they can then play the “government in disarray” card and run all the negative things from his past to destroy the ALP at the election. 😯

It was my first commenter, on this post, “David” who put up the link on the ABC’s facebook page 😀 I’m just surprised that it’s still there 😎 as I thought they may have wiped it.

Well you took the words right out of my mouth, Truthy. But you said it a lot better than I could’ve ever done, so thank you. I’ve always felt all along that how the MSM treat the Prime Minister of this country is tantamount to treason. But it just goes to show, that even in a democracy that we all believe ourselves to be living in, we could all still be ruled by a fascist dictator without us even realising it, simply because said dictator happens to be a multi-billionaire who has a fetish for controlling governments and countries through his ownership and control of the media in the country/ies that he wants to control. And so because Rupert “Dr Evil” Murdoch has become our authoritarian ruler by stealth simply because made sure that he used his immense wealth to own and control our newspapers and because he has no scruples and does want to rule the world, proceeds to manipulate our views by how he presents his “news” – well he calls it news, but it’s actually his own propaganda as we all know. “Power tends to corrupt, absolute power corrupts absolutely” might have been written with ol’ Rupert in mind. And this is why we’re in the state that we find ourselves in today (“State” being the operative word come to think of it).

The fact that ol’ Rup is the way he is shouldn’t excuse the journalists who work for him though. If they had any shred of decency at all they’d resign and refuse to work for such a person. The contempt and scorn that I feel for these “journalists” and I use the term lightly (most especially the piss-weak coward who didn’t even have the guts to put his name on the offending The Aged article today) has no bounds, treating our brilliant PM the way they do when they’re not fit to lick her boots.

The only course of action against such a media monster is of course to change the legislation so that no one should ever have a monopoly or near-monopoly of the media in this country (perhaps one day or maybe never a majority government headed by PM Gillard will do it; or we can rise up in mass protest against this assault on our democratic rights through the social media and blogs, in short, the very things that will ultimately cause the demise of Rup’s treasured news and mainstream media.

It makes me wonder what people in the future will say about the times that we’re living in now – perhaps that it’s not governments anymore that can become the authoritarian rulers, but uber-wealthy private citizens who can buy their way into having enormous power and control over millions of unsuspecting people. Money buys power basically. And the media especially is the most powerful way of being able to control people, just ask Goebbels. Ol’ Rup figured that out early on in the piece. And we’re only just catching up to what he’s done, but hopefully it’s not too late, because now we have a weapon with which to counteract – it’s called the social media and the blogs on the internet baby! Well until someone figures out a way to control them too…

Hopefully, as you say, when JGPM is returned, there will be a fresh round of media legislation to take away his control.

The problem is that if Abbott does get in  then he will sell off the NBN giving Murdoch control of that as well, and severely restricting the options for the fifth estate to fight him.

Thats why he is soooo keen to get Abbott elected 😯

It is time for Andrew Holden to stand aside as editor-in-chief of the Age, so that fact-based, information-driven democratic debate can flourish once again. Mr Holden should do so in the interests of The Age, in the interests of Victoria and, most importantly, in the interests of democracy. The public’s overriding concern is that, under Mr Holden’s editorship, The Age’s coverage of politics and news in Australia has become trivialised and sensational. Our fear is that if there is no change in The Age editorship soon, readers will be denied a proper source of news and information – and that would be a travesty for the democratic process.

That idiot Abbott will be an absolute nightmare for our International relations, and make us a laughingstock. 😦

Thanks for the link, will check it out when Picasso has finished for the day 😀

      Cheers 😀

Let me preface this comment by saying that I rate Prime Minister Gillard as one of the best reformist PMs this nation has ever known. I will be one very disillusioned voter if my fellow citizens are stupid enough to install Abbott.

That said, she erred badly on two crucial points –

    1. She assumed she was talking to adults when she said to Heather Ewart,
“Oh, look, I’m happy to use the word tax, Heather. I understand some silly little collateral debate has broken out today. I mean, how ridiculous. This is a market-based mechanism to price carbon.”
Abbott had been Opposition Leader for quite some time and knowing the potency of his slogans for bogans routine, she should never have allowed the word “tax”.

    2. She should have moved on media reform immediately after the 2010 election. It was clear by then that the media was conducting a jihad, and “playing nice” with them would be construed as weakness. In any event, the anti Gillard tirades could not have been any worse if she had taken this path, and media would likely have been a damn site more respectful.

Davo, thanks for your comment 😀 and I agree entirely, and have said much the same things myself over the last couple of years. 😦

I do think she was somewhat naive when she first took the job, but has grown into the position, and I doubt that she would make the same mistakes now 😀

But regardless, we must and will prevail 😀

      Cheers 😀

I agree, although it galls me to say it. This is what our western, well informed, educated populace has come to expect “politics al le Big Brother”.

Treating people fairly and as intelligent unfortunately does not work in contemporary politics.

Is it possible you could ask him to come back if he does contact you .
I know he was hurt and disgusted with MS, she is still ranting away. but it isn’t the same without his comments. If you do hear from him say Hi from me and everyone else , and try and twist his arm to come back. loseing Julia is hard enough and now to lose him is just as bad .
Hope you are keeping well . take care

Hi hefina, yes I know that some of cornlegend’s friends have been leaving him messages, hoping he will return, as I have seen them myself.

Unfortunately, my understanding is that it wasn’t just MS, but a number of contributors as well as commenters that finally forced his hand.

He did ask me to write and let everyone at IA know that he wouldn’t be back, and I did express my regret at his decision, at the time. I do know that he is a man of his word, and integrity, and he did not make the decision lightly, and I understood and supported his reasons for doing so.

so I will certainly let him know that you have left this message for him, if he doesn’t see it for himself, but the decision has to be is his to make. 😦

He does pop in here regularly, so you should be able to catch him here most days if you wish to. 🙂

      Cheers 😀

    Hi Red Dragon,
All is well in Cornlegend Land,
I hope you are fighting on well.
I just had a gut full of some of the stuff on IA.
{Tess, Marilyn etc}I find it really difficult to listen to Marilyn, being the “saviour ” of the refugees..
This was the same Marilyn, who, given one of the greatest refugee crisies in our history, denied its happening to the extent it did.
    I talk of the Holocaust.
She denies 6 million Jews were sent to the gas chambers.

To get a better under standing of Marilyn, google Marilyn Shepherd { she rants, worldwide, not just in Australia or follow this link.

I hope you are doing well Red Dragon, and your family.
I am in very good, and safe hands her at Truthseeker musings

I must mention that my niece and her family has now arrived in NSW “Griffith” on a 457 visa. I can assure you this is a hard working family . sold what they had left after the snow in North Wales buried everything they had of value. She is a cancer survivor and has raised thousands of pounds for that cause. and will continue to do so here in NSW. while her husband is also as well as working teaching others in his line of work.
Although we are miles away from them it will give us a chance to see more of NSW when we visit them, one day. Cheers Corn legend and Truth Seeker. Keep Well.
