Newman is once more pointing the way!
With the latest report from QLD stating that the state pollies are about to receive 
another $50,000 per year on their base salaries, and an entitlement for back pay for the last five years, one has to wonder how the hell they can sleep at night.
Not only have they already decimated health and education services, further damaged confidence both in the public service and in the private sectors, and put a wrecking ball through the states economy, they have started another round of cuts.
While my anger was still simmering away, as a result of the announcement of their pay rise of around $1,000 per week, when they are telling us that they are so hard up that they can’t provide security of services and maintain staffing levels for front line services, my mother rang me with some distressing news for them.
Now my parents are in their eighties, and are permanent residents in a caravan park on the Sunshine Coast. They are not self funded, and as a result live on the aged pension, with a small pension supplement from the UK.
They own their caravan and solid annex, but still pay rent for the site they are on.
They each have health problems, which restricts their mobility, and have been using Blue Care services for a number of years for cleaning, and transport for shopping, which they have just been told can no longer be provided for them unless they can pay for it.
They have previously been assessed as eligible for these services to be provided free of charge, as they cannot afford to pay for them as well as maintain basic living standards, but as a result of Newman’s cuts, Blue Care and other service providers have been combined, resulting in a reduced service, and now a requirement for their customers to pay for that reduced service. WTF?
They have relied on these services for some time, as they help them to maintain their independence and their home, and other cuts have reduced their access to such things as public transport.
They are now about to cancel these services, as they cannot afford to pay out more, without reducing their medications or other essentials.
PANTS ON FIRE!
Now for those who may be thinking that Tony Abbott is worth voting for, I would urge you to demand that he release all his policies, and look very carefully at them and their ramifications, and then compare them directly with those that were promised by Newman at the last QLD election.
Because if you care for your children and your elderly parents, your individual futures and the future of this country then as far as Abbott and his policies and plan for the future are concerned;
Newman is once more pointing the way!

That amount they are about to steal from the public purse would have kept quite a few QLD health workers in a job.
so , theres about 91 mps.
If they all qualified for the increase,[which I know they wouldn’t] plus back pay, at $300,000, a scumsucker, technically, thats about $27 million $27,000,000.
Would that also mean, that all those defeated at the last election, would be entitled to the back pay.?
If its backdated 5 years, can’t see why it wouldn’t.

Mate, I’m not sure who will be eligible for the back pay, but I think it was Geoff Seeney, who was on TV last night saying that he would name and shame any that went for the back pay, while at the same time defending the $50,000 rise… What a guy? 😯

Don’t worry, it’s not much better here in NSW under O’Farrell except he & his Cabinet are sneakier. The coward Boffa doesn’t actually announce any bad news himself, he lets others do this but they have all perfected the art of making it sound like they are doing you a favour. Grrrr.

I just read, come September she. Prue Goward is introducing a “tax” on Dept of Housing tenants, if they have an empty room.
If elderly people, who have family , grown up and left home, the “tax” for an empty room will be $20 a single $30 A COUPLE PER WEEK.
This is against the advice of experts, who say the harm, in removing people from their support networks, health providors, long established social networks etc etc, will in all likelihood be a harm to the tenants, but, because there could be demands on other services, a greater cost to the Government.
Still, why would they give a toss !, they’re LNP

Cornie, thats the bedroom tax that my sister was so up in arms about in the UK 😯
The problem is that many of the people hit with the tax are disabled people who use that extra space to keep and store the medical equipment that they need, so it’s a double whammy for those that can least afford it. 👿
Why can’t they learn from others mistakes, instead of just mindlessly repeating them?

Cornie, Pru Goward is a prime example of those nasty, cold-hearted Liberal women which seem to abound in politics. Apparently, maintenance of the public housing stock is a very low priority for her & many of the houses are in a very poor state of repair. Desperate families are being asked to move into slums which should be condemned. Disgraceful.
Now she has borrowed the worst of the UK Tories legislation to inflict more trauma on the more needy of our society. Mind you, where we live it is nearly impossible to even get on the waiting list.
Another point is that Tony Abbott goes to visit his Tory “mates” in England every year to absorb some more of their wonderful ideas.

Surely we have had enough of this, this duet between the media with its’ opinionista’s and the politicians with their limited, school-boy economics, and imaginations. So at the end of this, the initial phase of the mineral boom, what do we have, as individuals in this country? A flat screen TV each, and car in the drive, perhaps? No major investment to improve the common wealth of the nation, either in the pipeline, or advanced enough to give us some sense of this countries future. (There is another point concerning this issue, and the governments efforts to combat the GFC). However, I fear that the old Anglo-Saxon complacency will see us through, and the carousel will go round and round.

Sadly I don’t think that politicians like Newman and Abbott have any discernible amount of imagination at all, and the Media singing from the same song sheet only reduces their ability of forward thinking past their “Limited school-boy economics”
I do think there is plenty of major investment to improve the common wealth of the nation, in the pipeline though by way of Gonski, the NDIS, the NBN etc, but it is a battle at the state level, and with the likes of Newman and the rest of his LNP state counterparts, and the prospect of an Abbott federal gov, the alternative future is quite bleak 😯

The game has changed now Kevin Rudd is back on the throne,dont get me wrong,i was sad to see Julia Gillard go as i thought she was and is fantastic,but we have to be pragmatic and move on. I dont know what it is about Rudd,he just seems to have that rapport with ordinary day to day punters,Abbott has’nt got it,Julia tried but for reasons we all know could not cut through a hostile Media or the sexism and i have never seen a more popular PM in Rudd in my lifetime,i can see already the Coalition is in panic mode as they realise they will not waltz to the Government front benches and this in turn brings me to Newman and Abbott in relation to my home State of Queensland. Rudd will wipe the floor with the both of them once he starts getting around this State and he has’nt made Brisbane his base for the election on a whim,he knows exactly how popular he is up here and he will extract every ounce of it to hammer home why people should never vote for Abbott or Newman again so i urge everybody to settle down ,have faith,and enjoy the show because it’s going to be a wild ride,and in the end we will come roaring out of the tunnel and into the light. Amen.”’

Here in NSW we sold one of our power stations into private hands for $50 million. You’d think that would be a reasonable deal until you realise part of the deal was that the government would open and run a coal mine to provide below-market value cheap coal to the power station. Of course this would have cost in the vicinity of $1.7 billion to the taxpayers, so we decided to renig on the deal, but that also came at a price – instead we chose to compensate the purchaser some $300 million.
So, after writing off a few other expenses, surprisingly we didn’t actually end-up with $50 million smackeroos to lavish on the populace. No, instead the NSW tax payers are now roughly $75 million out of pocket and we have given away a power station away to a private company, who can then charge us money for producing power that we used to own. Now THAT is what I call a good deal!
Apparently, this is only the first part of our privatisation process that we have been told will make us a tidy profit. I’m looking forward to seeing how the remainder of the negotiations go.

I feel sick to the stomach reading this. It is not getting any publicity here in Victoria, where they are do awful things to the most needy like cutting back on pension discounts, but I haven’t heard them taking away vital support like that, at least not yet.

2gravel Give it time. Did you see 4 corners this week? Enough to make me feel guilty having a home of my own and food on the table. It is not all wonderful as I am a carer for my husband with dementia, but I still feel pretty well off. Sorry about your Mum and Dad TS but I don’t feel sorry for those people in Qld who voted Liberal.

The problem is that under Newman it’s those that can least afford it that are being hit the hardest, as will happen under Abbott, and yes there were a lot that were sucked in by the pre election lies of Newman and the LNP, and I must admit to not feeling too sorry for them myself.
But the point is that they were deceived by a completely dishonest campaign, as we are now by Abbott, and there are an awful lot of people like my parents who WILL be adversely affected by a Federal LNP Government, and these cuts are only the thin end of the wedge. 😯
My mother is also my fathers carer, as my wife is mine, and I know how hard it is for carers, who have my utmost respect, and I certainly don’t want to see carers support further eroded either, but sadly I think that that is only a matter of time too if they get their way. 👿

Cutting the services to your parents, are the ones that keep them out of hospitals and nursing homes. A little short sighted. It will cost the taxpayer more. Then he will be going after more cuts, to fill the hole.
Same with the claim that destroying the CEF and all it contains plus the price on carbon emissions will somehow save money. This is far from true.
First of all, the cost on the cost of living has been lower than predicted,much lower.
The carbon emission are falling.
Their has been compensation, greater than the extra we are spending. It has not lowered out standard of living in any way.
There has been many new jobs created, from the ability of business to put in place technology that lowers their emissions and power usage. Some has manged to lower their power bills nearly zero.
Bushinesses have access to low income loans to improve their productions methods that will save then money into the future.
Then, Abbott intends to replace this efficient and low cost way of dealing with carbon emissions with hos Direct Action Scheme, that will be more expensive, in efficient, abs many say will not work.
How does one save money, replacing a cheap way of doing thing, with a more expensive, in efficient scheme.
Can anyone explain it to me.
Penny Wong on Lateline. She is giving a hint that the deficit might not be as large as was feared. Does this surprise anyone, when we have seen the dollar on a downward trend since the last announcements.

Truthie sorry to here your news. I have a problem which has been churning around my brain for awhile and still don’t have an answer, to use modern speak how do you “Break through”. I read comments on various sites and there is all sorts of frustrations and ideas but basically it is all talk. rabbott is into corporeal punish (do as your told and I will run things my way) and Labour tries its best for everyone. rabbott refuses to acknowledge he will hurt the people who can least afford it while Labour will hurt the people who most afford it. howard changed the Australian character into the self centred bastard it is today. How can you break through with a simple message that even the dumbest will understand? I don’t like Rudd but at least he is out fighting. My wife resigned from the Labour party (she joined because of what howard did to age care. I am a socialist but was never a Labour member) over Julia’s dismissal. Sorry this is imcomplete but always remember rabbott is the enemy.

Check out the Law Report on ABC RN from last night. Apparently the QLD Government found out that the wage freeze that Anna Bligh instituted in 2008 for QLD pollies was “unconstitutional” and that millions in back pay and super may be owed to anyone who sat in the QLD parliament since then …
Surely Ms Bligh checked that it was ‘constitutional’ to freeze politician’s wages as ordinary workers wages are frozen? Otherwise it’s all sauce > goose > gander!
