Did we dodge a bullet, only to now jump on a land-mine?

With around two weeks to go, to the 2013 election, and still little to no detail on the LNP’s agenda for cuts, the questions asked of Tony Abbott are legitimate questions that need to be answered.

The truth is that the GFC and its ramifications are still ongoing, and there are many fragile economies around the world that would love to be in the position that Australia currently enjoys.

Sadly though, you wouldn’t know it by listening to the Australian MSM or the LNP.

So where can you go to find out the facts about our economy and why we jumped from #13 to #1 developed economies during the GFC?

Well a good place to start is IA, and the excellent articles by Alan Austin who has written a series of articles with the prefix “We really must talk about…”, the latest of which is “We really must talk about what actually did save Australia.”

The fact is that the overwhelming evidence from experts at home and around the world points to the stimulus packages introduced by the Rudd Labor government as the main factor in Australia’s avoidance of the recession that hit most other developed nations.

Now I know that the LNP claim that it was the Howard’s surpluses that are responsible along with the mining investments that saved us, but the facts don’t match up with their

And so we come to Abbott and his “plan for the future”.

This is Abbott’s plan for the future that starts by taking us forward to the past.

This is a plan that is supposed to be the best plan for our future, but we are to be spared the details of how it will work, and how it will be paid for.

This is a plan put forward by the alternate leader of our Nation, that when the questions get too tough for him he will respond with:

Or this little gem during the last debate;

Is this a leader (?) who we could expect to represent us well on the world stage?

Is this a man (?) who we can take on trust, to do the right thing by this Nation, whilst he:

• Openly lies about the state of the economy?
• Openly lies about the implementation of the carbon price and the effects of carbon pricing, and in fact made an argument himself for a carbon tax?
• Says he wants to stop the boats and the drownings at sea, and then actively works to make sure that the boats keep coming?
• Claims to be a conservationist, citing bushwalking as proof of his credentials?
• Says he’ll stop the waste, whilst claiming expenses for volunteer work and charity rides?
• States climate change is “Crap”, and then tells us that he now believes in the science, whilst producing a policy that all the credible experts say won’t work?
• Goes out of his way to destroy both careers and lives for the sake of fulfilling his own political ambitions?
• Demanding that opponents adhere to a set fo standards that he won’t enforce on his own party or candidates?
• Refuses to adhere to their own charter of budget honesty?
• Refuses to provide details of the cuts/savings measures required to pays for their promises?

And the list goes on   😯

So the burning question is;

Since the start of the  GFC, and the fantastic performance of our economy, jobs growth, productivity growth, employment, inflation, interest rate, and debt to GDP numbers; all lauded around the world, do we now turn our backs on all of that good work for someone like Abbott and his own rabid political ambitions, backed by the likes of Murdoch for his own personal and economic advantage?

Or to put it in simple terms;

Did we dodge a bullet, only to now jump on a land-mine?
