Crystal clear = clear as mud!

Crystal clear = clear as mud!

imagesWith just over 2 weeks since the election, and 4 full days since the government was sworn in, we are starting to see what an Abbott government stands for, and increasingly people are less than happy with what they see.   😯

As I mentioned in my previous post, one of the key slogans of the last weeks of the campaign was “Crystal clear”, stated by Abbott ad-infinitum.

Another of his favourite slogans was “From day one”, but what he was less than “crystal clear” about was that “day one” started at least eleven days after the election.   😯

Now as far back as I can remember, an incoming government pretty much hit the ground running , and with a “Crisis” on our borders, and a “Budget emergency” threatening to destroy the world as we know it, according to Abbott, Hockey and the rest of the LNP spin machine, we could be forgiven for thinking that “Day one”, actually meant “Day one”.images

But no, according to Abbott, day one was actually day eleven, and instead of hitting the ground running on the real day one, he didn’t hit the ground running, but rather jumped on the pushy, and went for a ride… Maybe he thought that it would be quicker than running?

He then went to some photo ops with the heads of departments, and then hid from the media until day nine when he did his first presser, at which point he announced that he would ignore around half of the voting public by having only one woman (?) in cabinet.

Then to add insult to injury, he said he was “disappointed” that he did not have more women in the cabinet, even though he was the one that chose it… WTF?

Shortly thereafter, the sackings, mergers and closures started.

How dare you do what we do?

How dare you do what we do?

They stated with a directive from that “Token Woman” and doyen of fairness and class (Sarcasm alert), Julie Medusa Bishop, who immediately revoked the Appointment of Steve Bracks to the position of New York’s Consul General, for the totally altruistic reason that he was a Labor appointee.   😯

Now many of these closures were not unexpected, although the sacking of senior public servants, and the closure of the Climate Commission has received some condemnatory and puzzled responses from both at home and around the world, as people look on in disbelief, at what is seen as, at the least, ill-considered decisions.

So what we have, is a government that:images

  1. Hit the ground… and stayed there for nine days?
  2. Announced a cabinet of 19 ministers, with only 1 woman, which equates to approximately 5% representation for around 50% of the population?    And then stated that he was disappointed that there were not more women in cabinet?   WTF?
  3. Employed a 3 star general to oversee a non-military operation, that is now called a “military” operation to secure our borders from invasion by leaky fishing boats filled with scared and hungry men, women and children?   😯
  4. Has major parts of its “Operation Sovereign Borders”, dismissed by the Indonesian government, using language like; offensive, could possibly damage relations, etc  etc?
  5. Has  shown the true meaning of their slogans:
  • Day 1 = day 11 = day 1?   WTF?
  • Abbott “Gets Women” = Abbott gets women… to do his menial and dirty work, but he doesn’t “get” anything like equal representation?
  • There are some talented women knocking on the door of cabinet = There’s no women in the LNP as smart or talented as… Barnaby Joyce?
  • Stop the boats = Stop the information?
  • Stop the waste = Sack the experts so that they don’t have to hear inconvenient truths?
  • Direct Action Plan = Climate Change is crap, and it’s more important to make some wealthy people richer than to provide  a future for our kids?
  • Infrastructure PM = PM who ignores the required infrastructure of the 21st century, and concentrates on just roads?
  • Cut the tax = Try to bully the ALP, minor parties and independents into scrapping a price on carbon, which is working, and when most of the world are moving towards a similar scheme, and a fair % of people voted to keep it.
  • Fix the Budget emergency = er.. what budget emergency?
  • Reduce the Debt = We might go for a bit more debt, so as to add more stimulus (Probably for the rich)?
  • Live within our means = Pay “Women of Calibre” $75,000 to have kids, while the poor and underprivileged still have to live beyond their means if they want to have children?
  • Justice doesn’t need to be done, it just needs to be be seen to be done = George Brandis’s philosophy!   WTF?
  • Crystal clear = clear as mud!

    Good stuff, Mate.
Just on the sacking of Bracks, this was before they were signed in, and apparently it was ok.
But they refuse to take ownership of any asylum seeker vessels until after their investiture?

    A great big WTF???

Good on ya, Truthie. Great stuff as always. I wonder what our Tony was doing for those 11 days – perhaps he was tired, or maybe he needed to consult with his ‘mentors’.
It seems that Mr Morrison will make an announcement today about the info on boat arrivals – that’ll be interesting! Any attempt to keep the public in the dark needs to be hit hard.
Anyway, Truthie, I posted this yesterday on Fair Media Alliance – http://fairmediaalliance.wordpress.com/2013/09/22/julie-bishop-woman-of-calibre-foreign-minister-and-the-only-woman-in-the-cabinet/

Kate, Ærchie’s Archive has been posting about asylum seeker boat arrivals for some time also. His posts are very informative & can be found on Twitter as well as in his blog. Have been able to put them on FB as well as tweeting them myself.

So there are a few brave people out there challenging the powers-that-be with their decision to play fast & loose with the truth.

Top post, yet again, Truthie. Still firing on all cylinders, I see. 😆 Someone commented on Twitter that it was hard to make a parody account for some of the LNP senior MPs, such as Joe Hockey, as they are already parodies of themselves . 😉

Yes, Ærchie’s Archive does some great stuff 😎 and sadly Fast and loose with the truth is their stock in trade 😯 But they need to be held to account.

I agree that they are parodies of themselves 😀 but it just adds to the challenge 😀

      Cheers 😀

      • Guess that Morrison has been forced into giving a weekly news report on arrivals on Christmas Island. I hope that it was Aerchie’s daily reporting blog that Joy refers to that she has tweeted & managed to put on her facebook that has helped.
Just as an aside. I have a new computer, now on Microsoft 8 whereas I was on Vista previously. I seem to have lost the ability to copy & paste as it does not appear on the bar at the top of the screen.
Can anyone help me to set up this facility properly. I would be entirely grateful. Thanks once again for a great article Truthie.

Hi Truthie and thanks for another great post, yes,as clear as mud no doubt. I believe this country will now be run on the policy agenda set down by Murdoch, the Vaticans poster boy Pell, and the ghost of BA Santamaria and the IPA along with various other mud dwelling far right scum sucking loons, so i believe people like you and others are vital in the crusade to keep us informed and more importantly engaged in case we take our eyes off the ball ,my Dad would have described you as having a ” good ”hand”. ps;; I dont think the average decent good christians who help the poor and sick are loons , just the bastards like Pell and others who pontificate and preach their brand of bullshit. Keep up the good work.

Yes, I agree that there are many like Pell and Abbott who are counter productive to the true Christian cause, and I know many selfless Christians who do great work with no thought of recognition, they just get on with it. 😀

Sandra, Kate beat me to it, 😀

I have to say I work on an Apple Macbook Pro, and although my wife’s laptop runs windows 8, I don’t use it often an struggle somewhat with it.

There are some shortcuts, I think “control c” is for copy, and “control v” is paste, but I’m not 100%.

But like Kate said Highlight and then right click should give you a copy and paste option. 😀

BTW Sandra, thanks for your kind words 😎

    Another great right up Truthie,
I was appalled at the MSM announcing that the first boat under the coalition watch… WTF is that. Yesterday I read about all the health initiatives like anit-obosety, smoking etc being shut down. WTF

I am hoping for DD in about 6 months. Enough time for him to get enough people pissed off enough.
But at the moment I am feeling like this is going to be a very long three years. He makes Howard look like he was leaning to the left!

Sandra you can also highlight the text press CTRL-C to copy and then CTRL-V to paste it in.

I think that Australia has a lot further to fall before they learn the pain that our forebears knew and worked so hard to try to spare us the indignity of it all. Tony is going to teach us all what we avoided.
Maybe the good thing out of such pain, is people may actually prevent it going too far before too much of the damage is done, just out of those same selfish motivations that Tony and his ilk promote.
We have been sheltered too much in this land by the egalitarian nature of our Society and now we have swung to the selfish side because we don’t know better due to a lesson forgotten. We will learn the lesson again, just like a selfish child does. Ouch!

Watching Scott Morrison. He said we are going to be here every week for these briefings. Wonder how many of the media will turn up, if one is not to be told anything.

Chris Bowen was not asked a question, when he replied to Morrison, Is the new strategy, not to ask the Opposition any questions.

I agree with Fed Up,i saw the Morrison press briefing and rolled around the floor laughing, honestly it was like a Monty Python sketch what with his 3 star General and his Sovereign Borders and his Navy boats and his chain of command and his full use of the Military to stop the invading hordes from raping and pillaging and blah blah blah””, it reminded me of Winston Churchill and his we will fight them on the beaches speech and you would think he was preparing for the D Day landings to push back the Nazi invaders and save the world i mean the man is a complete fucking idiot and he and his front bench should be placed in an Asylum and be forced to play with toy Refugee boats in a cold bath while singing Advance Australia Fair backwards in German, now that would make a good Monty Python sketch.

Just finished watching Q&A. According to David Suzuki, we’re lucky in Australia that our election cycle is so frequent, means we’ve got only 2 and a half years to get off our ‘asses’ and get ready for the next election.

Abbott will be less than a wart on history’s arse.

I hope you had a good sleep, Truthie.

In the clear morning light, I realised how much I needed the final words from David Suzuki at the end of the show, because the entire show was uneven and did not represent the 97% of climate scientists.

I have just posted at John Lord’s blog: http://theaimn.com/2013/09/23/murdoch-vs-science/

My comment there (compounded with the comment from Anomander) stating that that balance on QandA last night was like having an astronaut being interviewed by flat-earthers.

There was one representative climate scientist from the IPCC, who was constrained as he did not wish to opine before the release of the IPCC’s report. He also appeared nervous (which is understandable). The rest of the show went on to discuss GM food and nuclear as the ‘solution’ to alternatives to fossil fuel. There was little discussion of renewables, with David Suzuki virtually ignored on his support of solar – pointing out the bleeding obvious that Australia has an abundance of sunlight, and other sources such as thermal, wind farms hydro did not even rate a mention.

This show meandered, did not provide anything to convince the deniers and wasted David Suzuki’s insight.

I agree, QandA was not what I hoped for either, and a wasted opportunity to ask David Suzuki some decent questions and learn from his insight. 😦

Australia will become the butt of jokes around the world for effectively turning our backs on the science of AGW, and will not come near to our committed targets, under Abbott’s regressive regime. 👿

          Cheers 😀

Copy of comment I left at John Lord’s Murdoch V Science blog:

Much of the vital message David Suzuki had to say last night, has been covered in his article published on the Conversation:

    http://theconversation.com/david-suzuki-australian-scientists-should-be-up-on-the-ramparts-18505?utm%20

However this piece was written before the election and David was far more scathing of Abbott’s destruction of any and all department’s and advice regarding climate change. The article is a good opportunity for any who missed viewing Q&A to catch up.
