While the LNP are looking to cut spending on such frivolous public service areas as;
- Public education.
- Public health.
- Science and research.
- Social security.
- Overseas aid.
etc etc, they are apparently happy to spend… well who knows how much on “Operation Sovereign Borders”, and their obsession with boats? And yet more millions of dollars on another enquiry (the first eight, or so, just weren’t enough?) into what was (despite the lies and rhetoric from the LNP and Murdoch press) essentially a successful part of the stimulus package. A scheme that actually saw a drop in the number of industry related fatalities compared with previous years.
But I digress 😀
Anyhoo, what is this “governments” (and I use the term with tongue firmly planted in cheek 😯 ) problem with boats?
To refresh our collective memories, and roughly in chronological order, they wanted/want;
- To “Stop the boats”.
- To “Tow back the boats”.
- To “Turn back the boats”… Oh yeah, when it’s safe to do so.
- To “Buy back boats”.
- To “Give away boats”
- To look like they’re actually doing something… by employing more of our boats?
- According to Fairfax, the next one is to be…wait for it … “Swap the boats”? WTF?
Following on from #7, we are told that they may be considering buying nice shiny new, powered life boats, to replace the leaky and generally unseaworthy craft, that the people smugglers are currently employing… W…T…F? 🙄
So, if in fact there is a plan… 😆 (remember this is the LNP were talking about) 😆 what does it entail?
- Do they buy them for our navy and coastguard, to use to become a “Taxi” service back to indonesia? (I thought that they weren’t going to be a “Taxi service? WTF?) Or;
- Do they buy them to transfer the asylum seekers to, and then send them on their merry way, in a boat much more likely to do the trip numerous times, if they don’t get caught again, meanwhile further polluting the oceans with scuttled fishing boats, or towing them home to re-sell? 😆
Now, if they go for the first option, as far as I can see they may well hit a few more funding blowouts, logistical speed bumps and the same massive road block that they are currently up against, as;
- The cost of buying and maintaining powered lifeboats would not be covered in Hockey’s MYEFO, so would have to go on that dastardly “Credit card” 😯 .
- These boats would have to be big enough to carry up to around two hundred people safely, unless they send them out in pairs… or more?
- Our sailors lives will be put at risk while crewing these boats, full of scared and angry people who’ve just been taken off a boat that they paid good money to be on, that could have potentially killed them, and put on a boat that is more likely to get them to Australia… if it was their boat, which was their gaol in the first place… and what they paid for?
- These boats will be Australian vessels, in Indonesian territorial waters… Mmmm 😉 ?
- Unless they plan to find a deserted indonesian island or coastal area, to dump the asylum seekers on, they will need Indonesia on board with a policy that they have already, repeatedly condemned.
If they go for option 2, we will;
- Spend a fortune on boats, which will prove a real bonus for Indonesian fishermen, who will be able to illegally fish in our waters much more safely, or people smugglers, who will be able to charge more for a trip on a boat that’s less likely… to sink. 😯
- Probably see the People smugglers setting up something akin to a shuttle service to Australia, in their shiny new boats, with bookings made at travel agents, 😯
- See many Indonesian fishermen cuing up to take part in the Australian “governments” (Read “Idiots”) boat swap deal. 😛
Now I know that some of my scenarios might seem a bit… over the top, (surely not? 😯 ) but then there are no surprises with the LNP, except that, for a party that’s diametrically opposed to government owned enterprise, it may well be that the biggest growth industry, and one of the few that will be open for business in 2014 will be the latest publicly owned industry of;
“Morrison’s Boats R us”… WTF? 😯

The LNP has a major problem with asylum seeker policy and apart from ‘we will do what Howard did’ and this under totally different circumstances, everything else they have come up with is a satirists dream.
LNP policy which is nothing more than that prick Rudd’s policy is supposed to one, ‘stop the boats’ and two have concentration camps so bad that there is a high rate of return to country of origin.
The fact is that the boats have slowed not stopped. A large part of the slowdown is weather related, the Monsoon season has always seen a large reduction in boat arrivals so it will be interesting to see what happens in a month or two.
Despite the horrendous conditions in the offshore concentration camps the return rate is around 1.5%. Quite simply no matter how bad we make it the alternative for most of the people seeking asylum is far worse.
Another factor is that there are 10,000 asylum seekers registered with the UNHCR in Indonesia and Malaysia (only 600 were processed in 2012) and the unregistered number is estimated to be between another 10 -15,000. Indonesia and Malaysia in particular want them gone because for many the money is running out.
Every asylum seeker that arrives costs us $600,000 a year in offshore detention and as more arrive it is becoming a logistical nightmare. In Nauru alone there are 60 shipping containers of bottled water each month, all food has to be shipped in and there are no port facilities. Everything has to be offloaded onto to tenders and these cannot operate in bad conditions. The same applies for Manus Island and Christmas Island except they have wharves for the ships to tie up to. Manus has 1,200 detainees and Christmas Island 2,200 detainees compared to 850 on Nauru.
Despite what Morrison says they are really stretched as far as the ability to increase numbers goes by the supply logistics. Christmas Island also has to supply the customs and naval boats and personnel just to complicate matters even further.
Morrison and company are completely out of their depth is seems three word slogans just don’t translate into effective policy. This latest piece of lunacy is gold but not quite as good as the by the boats plan. An Indonesian fisherman when asked what he thought about it was quite excited about the opportunity to be able to buy a new boat with the proceeds and referred to our revered leader as ‘Bodah’ which I am told loosely translates as ‘wooden headed fuckwit’.

Cheers Truthy for another well described “art critique” of the paintings by the inmates of the Saint Mary MacKillop Daycare Centre for the hopelessly insane.
The art materials supplied by the Murdoch Finger Paint Supply Corporation have been a boon for the budding artists but what truly amazes this particular viewer and purveyor of charitable institutional art is how you as an “art critique” Truthy can distinguish so much from the different shades of grey as this was the only colour the aforementioned corporation supplied these artists.
In fact Truthy you have brought a true and vivid visualization of colour to the viewer with your descriptive of the works presented that can`t been seen from viewing these paintings but only from your brochure.
You see Truthy like the wine taster who can taste the barrel caramelization with a hint of a passing Bogong moth,you have given life to a rather dull display indeed.
I applaud your effort Truthy,valiant as it is so as this art display may be sold to the public to raise money for this worthy Daycare Centre,but alas I do not think the public will buy any of it and we will find that we shall just have to dig deep and donate.
But Truthy you can only work with what you have and job well done I say.

Biggy, thanks for that mate 😀
You are obviously a true connoisseur and discerner of the monotone, nutjob art school whose patron, uncle Rupes, has been instrumental in promoting the “one colour (grey) paints all” philosophy, where the colour and detail are well and truly hidden behind a mask of harmless ineptitude and puerile machinations designed to leave many viewers confused and bewildered.
But you my friend are one of the few that can see through the monotone smokescreen, to the cold, blue and lifeless heart that lies behind the facade, and is the wellspring of what in truth is their soulless and self serving ineptitude. 😯
Keep up the good work mate 😀

sigh…….I’ll keep this simple because the author thinks all things coalition are bad, so lets get to the point. With the horse now well and truly bolted, any comments this author would like to remark about Rudd and his removal of a border control policy that worked resulting in 50,000 illegal boat people later? Perhaps a slight “whoopsy daisy” moment from the ALP\green team? So right now my left leaning friends, your beloved ALP\green party stuffed up and once again its up to the adults in charge to clean up your hideously expensive mistake. Gee, all that money wasted could’ve paid for nurses, hospitals, new drugs on the PBS, support staff for schools……im sure you get it, im just not you sure you understand how illogical your argument sounds when it comes to border control. The way I see it, the leftards are simply abbott haters and anything coalition needs to be howled down. Go figure.

Craig, welcome… sigh 🙄 I will also keep it simple and tell you thaty you are wrong! 😯
It’s an argument that is based o information put out by the RWNJ’s that ignores the FACTS , those inconvenient things that always get in the way of good LNP propaganda.
If you bothered to check out the real situation, you would find that there was a corresponding slowing of refugee movements around the world, and like so many of the situations lied about and exploited by JWH, it was another happy coincidence, and all the REAL experts agreed that those policies would not work in todays circumstances 😉
And another of those inconvenient FACTS is that the IMF declared Howard’s “government”, the most profligate, wasting more on middle class welfare than Rudd spent to save the country from the GFC, whilst leaving a massive infrastructure deficit. 👿
But I’m most amused by the fact that you would even consider that old chestnut as a basis for your argument? 😯
Sadly the “TRUTH” is an affront to you RWNJ’s, who cannot conceive of the possibility that anyone but a conservative can have good public policy.
And in many cases the truth is that they are last with good public policy… Go figure 😯

sigh…..where do we start…again! So,, the fact that Rudd dismantled a working policy means nothing to the left, go the ignorance! I guess you’re comfortable with another 50,000 economic refugees trying it on and thats fine because im not. It has cost Australia many billions of dollars to accommodate this mass illegal influx and yes, its illegal as most have passed 1, 2 or more countries to reach Australia and please inform me which south asian country is at war at the moment or imposing religious persecution that a boat refugee is not able to find safe haven in? The deliberate destruction of passports to de-indentify themselves makes them, illegal the moment they cross Australian borders. So, once again, the adults in charge have to fix your imbecilic mistake and that os going to cost a fortune as well.
Sigh……..so as youve done, lets pad out our post and put in a nonsensical argument about the IMF and its opinion. Yep, Howard left a surplus and Rudd left a……….deficit of……….180-200 billion net debt? So pray, how you would plan to pay this down over the next 20-30 years, more spending of the public purse with money we dont have and a dwindling tax payer base to support a growing retiree population? Gee, it must make you feel good to go the “gotcha” line when youve got nothing of value to add, eh?
So, the ‘TRUTH” is that your beloved ALP\green party were a sham in 6 years of governing and if you feel so inclined, name one policy that was COSTED and not drawn on the back of a beer coaster? Go figure.

Your budget emergency is a smokescreen for austerity because that`s what global financiers wanted with their self created GFC but Rudd did not play ball.
Howard was a contributor to all this with his Deputy Dawg takes us to Iraq and Afghanistan which has cost us countless billions that should have been spent on infrastructure.

Craig, you seem to be the master of nonsensical arguments, as you just ignore the Facts and the truth for the sake of pushing an already well discredited argument. 😯
And quite frankly, from you posts thus far, you prove to be no more than a right wing troll, doing nothing more than regurgitating the same old LNP lies and spin while completely ignoring anything other than your own misguided and some would say pathetically puerile belief in the Abbott, believing every utterance from a man and a party that have proved beyond dispute that they are cheats and liars.
Of course it is your prerogative to place your faith and trust in such people, but unlike people you, facts, truth and decency mean something to me and most here.
So if you have evidence to show what a great leader, or even a mediocre leader, Abbott is, please provide that information, and many here will be happy to debate you on it, but if you are just here to push right wing spin and lies, then you’ve had a fair go, something that RWNJ’s don’t believe in, and I would say to you, don’t bother. 😯
Just a word of advice though, if you do want to quote “facts” or “truth”, don’t draw them from sources connected with Murdoch media, the IPA, or other right wing think tanks, as they will be treated with the derision that they so rightly deserve. We respect “Experts” here, not right wing politicians or Murdoch’s lackeys. 😯
To quote “The X Files” as if it was an Australian political show… “The truth is out there… just not in the LNP!” 😯

Mr. Morrison once again told us yesterday, we have trouble understanding what Abbott’s words mean.
When he said they would not tow back boats, that is not what he meant. Once again we have to keep in mind, that Abbott has a different dictionary to the rest of us.
It appears, he meant he would only tow the boats to the edge of Indonesian territory. He meant that in no way they would invade their sovereign waters.
Silly us, forgetting that Abbott only ever tells us half of what he means. We have to guess the rest,
