QLD’s newest state of the art Hospital also gives that sinking feeling.S C hospital 2

The new Sunshine Coast private hospital was fast tracked, so as to provide badly needed facilities, that were supposed to be available for the public system, until the new public hospital, next door, can be built. Β  πŸ˜‰

But now it appears that at least some of the specialists rooms on the lower level have had to be closed, along with one of the multi story car parks, due to the fact that even though it has only just been finished and opened, parts of the main structures are… well… sinking! Β  😯

That’s right, the brand new, state of the art private hospital is already showing tide lines around some of the office walls on the lower level, because someone stuffed up.

Now the problem is that the whole area is reclaimed swamp land, only a metre or so above sea level, and the huge concrete piles that we watched them drive into the ground, for months on end, were obviously not long enough.   😯

So our fine public teaching hospital will need to be either re-engineered, or alternatively, they could wait until the private hospital stops sinking, and then use that as the foundation for the public facility Β  πŸ˜€

But for now, it wont only be your diagnosis that gives you that sinking feeling, cos;

Mate, there has been nothing reported on this in the local media, I found out through contacts in the medical fraternity, and Clients who were told this by their doctors. πŸ˜‰

It might be my first scoop πŸ˜€

      Cheers πŸ˜€

Mate it would need a bit of investigation I would imagine, cos even my mate hadn’t heard anything, and he’s usually on top of local issues 😯

And I’m not sure who is ultimately responsible, although the engineer would be a good place to start. πŸ˜‰

I’ll have a chat to my sources, and see what they say.

          Cheers πŸ˜€

To start with it`s called a leak.
So just check with your original source and verify in your own mind the leak is solid.
DD has ways to check further.
Like any big story they all start from a leak and leave investigative journalism to them mate,
I`m not saying don`t pursue,I`m saying you don`t have to as a source who breaks the story.

Sounds like NSW. I worked for Health in NSW for some years. The stories that can be told like doors not fire rated, disabled toilets with not enough room for motorised wheelchairs to turn around. At least not like this one, a public sacrifice to rising sea levels Or will they claim it was a planned hydrotherapy pool all along..

Among local doctors, there have been persistent rumours for some time, about the hospital sinking, but there are also doctors reports of patients that have witnessed first hand what’s going on.
There are memos and internal emails to staff, explaining that they cannot refer patients to the specialist outpatients rooms, as:

Some parts of the specialist outpatients dept “Have been demolished, as they were sinking!”

Specialist rooms with water marks up the walls, where patients were being seen!

Rooms where patients were seen were being evacuated later that day!

Ground floor sections of at least one of the car parks, (very expensive paid parking), fenced off due to sinkage!

And these things were seen/experienced first hand, within the last few weeks. 😯

    Truthy,
The hospital might have been designed that way on purpose.
They may want to provide their patients with fresh fish on the menu, caught fresh daily from the Specialists rooms πŸ˜€

    Interesting story.
If it is sinking they must have surveying equipment set up some distance away monitoring the building.
What about if it is simply the water level rising and the building is not sinking?

Hey Orangefox, thanks for your comment 😎

The word used by hospital staff to the patients, was definitely “Sinking” not flooding, so at this stage in the story, the “Sinkers” have it πŸ˜€

They are currently working on the Public hospital, so you would hope that they’ve sorted their engineering out for that one? πŸ˜‰

      Cheers πŸ˜€

Fair enough but see if you can get an engineer to claim sinking as this would be more certain. The other day I was waiting in traffic and a large truck started slowly moving forward and I could have swarn I was going backwards. Being on a hill I wacked the handbrake on and still going backwards. I thought I was going to hit the car behind.
        Weird feeling.

Orangefox, sadly I don’t have the resources to do the job properly, but I have contacted DD, from IA, as Biggy suggested, but I haven’t heard back yet. πŸ˜‰

That’s definitely a weird feeling.

I’ve had the exact same feeling several times in the last few years.Couple of years ago on the top deck at the plaza car park in Lismore,I had engine idling and car next to me started reversing backward,I shit myself for half a second thinking I was going forward over the front edge of car park.
